The city's mantra is "Keep Portland Weird". That's all it took for me to love this place even before we arrived. An eclectic mix of good food, street art, coffee, interesting businesses (such as a laundromat where you can play arcade games and sip coffee at their café whilst you wait for your load of washing), friendly faces and little quirks at every corner. This quickly became one of my favourite places.
We experienced the Multnomah Whiskey Library where the bartender rattles his portable bar to your leather armchair and makes you your drink of choice, roamed through the wonderland of bookstores, Powell's, coincidentally spent Halloween walking to a Witch's Castle, laughed at the world's smallest park which is literally the size of a football in the middle of a road and enjoyed the differing districts that each offer something unique and add up to the personality that is Portland.
The Oregon Coast then showed us the best of the Pacific Northwest. Making our way south we experienced driftwood clad shores, tempest oceans, blushing sunsets, seaside fires, whale and seal sightings and toasted marshmallow moments. Such wild and untouched beauty makes breathing easy.
